Jaw Cancer 6 Years On
I’ve written before how Monday 9th July 2018 was my 1st night in hospital due to jaw cancer and that on Tuesday 10th July 2018 I was on the operating table having half my jaw being removed and then re-built using the fibula from my left leg
Well, here we are 6 years later and I’m still going strong π
Unfortunately, I stopped blogging about my cancer story in January 2022 with the post Cancer Scare – Nothing to Worry About
In a way I see that as a good thing that I stopped writing about my cancer story, as from mid-January 2022 there wasn’t really much to write about.
I was now only seeing my consultant an oncologist once or twice a year and in mid 2023 had my final visit and was signed off π
I never really fully recovered, a combination of 3 operations in a week followed by an intensive radiotherapy course resulted in losing a number of lymph nodes in my neck, slight lymphoedema in my chin &lower lip and damaged nerves between my cheek and lips.
I also have quite an obvious overbite, my jaw can drift and I struggle to open my mouth much more than 20cm
This doesn’t really cause any pain, just discomfort, self-consciousness and I am always aware of it.
It’s almost a barometer of my general health, if ever I am coming down with anything. my neck is always the 1st sign as it sometimes gets warm, tight and can even affect my swallowing.
All in all, though, I can’t complain and most of the time feel pretty good
