My Christmas Tree From Christmas 2018

Having been in in out of UHCW for 6 months in 2018 due to my jaw cancer, I had initially finished radiotherapy in November, but had complications and had to go back in to hospital for another operation on 20th December.

Thinking I may be in hospital on Christmas day, we had a makeshift Christmas in mid-December, set up a tiny little artificial tree, gave kids presents early and had a sort of Christmas dinner.

Fortunately, the operation on 21st went well and consultant said I would be going home on 22nd – On the way home, feeling very groggy I suddenly decided to call in at shop, get turkey, trimmings, etc. and just down the road was a shop selling Christmas trees.

Despite the fact I was feeling terrible, had fatigue, still suffering from effects of chemo and radiotherapy, I bought the tree and managed to struggle the 200 yards to the car.

We set the tree up the following day, decorated it, put up more Christmas decorations and had a lovely Christmas Day – One at times earlier that year I didn’t think I would see.

After Christmas I put the tree in a pot out in the garden and it did, we so we bought it in the next 2 Christmases – Unfortunately by the 3rd year it wasn’t looking good and ended up behind the shed all year.

Come Christmas 2021 my wife wouldn’t let me bring it in the house, so I just stood it in the veg plot for a couple of weeks. I’ve done that the last 2 Christmasses and just set it back up this weekend 🙂

It may not be looking quite so good now, but I’ve told my wife – When the Christmas Tree goes, I go.
