The Long Term Effects of Cancer Treatment
Update to my cancer story 24/05/2026
I’ve been cancer free for 6 or 7 years now , but have recently been suffering from the the long term effects of cancer treatment.
I have a puffy like swelling on the inside of my cheek, my bottom lip feels permanently swollen, my neck sometimes feels hot and uncomfortable.
The worst thing though is the tightness in my neck that sometimes feels like it effects my windpipe and make swallowing difficult.
This was made worse last year when I was admitted to hospital for 4 days suffering from supraglottitis.
Despite telling my doctors I had previously had cancer treatment, including radiotherapy to my jaw and neck, they never really saw the connection and just treated me as though it was HIB related, didn’t refer me for any other tests, speech and language or anything else.
They just kept me in for 4 days for observation and taking intravenous antibiotics.
For the past few months my swallowing has been tricky again and this weekend was particularly bad.
I don’t think it is supraglottitis this time, but if it gets much worse will contact my GP
